Maria-Margaretta is an interdisciplinary Red River Michif Artist from Treaty Six Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
She has ancestral ties to the Métis communities of St-Fran?ois-Xavier, St. Boniface, Manitoba and St. Louis, Saskatchewan. Maria-Margaretta is currently making and living on the stolen territories of the S?wx?wú7mesh, S?l?ílw?ta?, and x?m?θk??y??m Nations.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from ECU and an MFA from OCAD University.
Within her practice, Maria-Margaretta explores the Michif self-archive through the creation of autobiographical beadwork and objects of the everyday. Using Métis’ identity as a place of transformation she questions how memory, personal experience, motherhood, and ancestral relations influences her understanding of self.
