Award-winning filmmaker and activist Jason DaSilva (BMA '01) returned to Emily Carr in 2006 to take part in our inaugural Masters Program.

His thesis project documents his very personal life-changing journey, and led him to discover an incredible way to give back to his community.

Indigenous Students

Veronica Waechter (BFA, 2018) is completing the finishing touches on the doors to the Aboriginal Gathering Place.

The doors, depicting the Raven, were designed by Yaxkasei William Callaghan (posthumous degree granted 2017).

Emily Carr is dedicated to supporting Indigenous students and creating a welcoming environment where you can thrive.

We offer funding for Indigenous students as part of our commitment to your academic success. Explore ECU’s Aboriginal Gathering Place (AGP), a centre that reflects the cultural characteristics of Indigenous students, communities and traditions. The AGP nurtures students, collaborates with contemporary artists, and enriches our curriculum and community.

ECU’s campus is located in the eclectic and vibrant neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant, popular among a diversity of people, including young creatives. Within walking distance from ECU, you’ll find great study spots, shopping, trendy places to eat, and endless fun things to do.

While ECU currently does not offer on-campus housing, our Student Services team is here to help you find housing that suits your needs. Emily Carr's students live off-campus in private rentals, shared rentals, temporary housing and homestays.
