The ECU Library + Learning Commons serves as the collaborative heart of the campus, enabling research, creativity, and innovation in a dynamic learning environment. The Library, Writing Centre, and Teaching and Learning Centre, and University Archives inspire curiosity and exploration in students, faculty, and staff and transform learning, research, and practice.

The Learning Commons promotes and supports a culture of research and critical inquiry for the Emily Carr University community - through research, writing and pedagogy. The expansive space is inviting, dynamic and accessible and facilitates exploration and learning through engagement with technology, physical materials and conversation, both in-person and through virtual environments.

Teaching + Learning Centre

The Teaching + Learning Centre (TLC) facilities, research and training initiatives, support faculty, graduate teaching assistants and staff with learning and teaching with new educational technologies in the classroom, online environments, for their research projects or web publishing projects.

The Writing Centre

The mission of the Writing Centre is to promote and support a culture of writing at Emily Carr.

The Writing Centre helps people see writing as a process and a material practice linked to their art, design and media work: writing is integral to everyone’s academic and professional development, whatever their field.

In the Library

Other spaces and services provided in the library include exhibition space, supplies swap, study rooms, computers, and equipment.

University Archives

The ECU Archives acquires, preserves and makes available records documenting the history of Emily Carr University of Art and Design. The holdings consist of a broad range of materials including publications, textual records, course calendars, video recordings, audio recordings and photographs dating from 1925 to present.
